Data-driven policy visualizations from Central and Eastern Europe

Last year the Open Society Foundations' Think Tank Fund published an online portfolio of a set of projects they supported from 2010 to 2013. The projects are all applications of data-driven policy in Central and Eastern Europe. The portfolio includes:

Estonia: Visualizing local government indicators. This project takes local data—schools, tax, hospitals—from all over Estonia and uses a map to illustrate regional differences.

Slovakia: The Price of the State. The Price of the State is a web portal that uses national budget data to show expenditures in "per-capita or per-working person costs."

Bosnia and Herzegovina: Armed Violence and Injury Monitoring System. In the absence of data from the Ministries of the Interior, this site collects and visualizes data about "juvenile delinquency, small arms and light weapons incidents, traffic accidents and hate crime incidents." Their goal is to find new ways to monitor crime with the hope of reducing it.
